Use these strategies to keep your boat shoes from smelling.

There's one summer shoe for guys that rules them all. It's officially boat shoe season, and while we love the look of freshly pressed chinos and slip-on shoes as much as the next guy, there's a common complaint about this al-fresco outfit that we hear and, er, smell. After a long, hot summer, boat shoes produce their signature "Sperry Stink."

Because boat shoes have a breathable leather material, it makes them some of the best shoes for guys to wear without socks. After all, there's a reason they're Zappos' best-selling shoe for men year after year. But like any other shoe you wear almost daily, they can stink up if you don't take care of them. The good news is there are plenty of easy things you can do to get rid of stinky feet and keep your boat shoes looking and smelling fresh.

Easy Ways To Prevent Boat Shoes From Smelling:

  1. Wash your feet properly after each wear
  2. Use a foot antiperspirant like Carpe foot lotion or a crystal deodorant stick
  3. Put powder, like Dr. Scholl's Soothing Foot Powder, on every time you wear the shoes
  4. Swap out the insoles for an odor-fighting pair of shoe insoles
  5. Wear no-show socks made for boat shoes
  6. Place deodorizing charcoal sachets in your shoes overnight
  7. Invest in a second pair and alternate

When sweat gets trapped inside your shoes, bacteria begin to form in the moist environment, which can result in an odor. The trick to fresh feet is keeping your shoes free of moisture by using antiperspirant, powder and letting your shoes dry properly after each wear.

Below, we've rounded up some of the best-selling products to keep your boat shoes feeling fresh and avoid the dreaded "Sperry Stink." If you want more of our editor-sourced products and reviews, sign up for HuffPost's sales and deals newsletter.

Richmond Teacher Gives Students Shoes Off His Own Feet to Walk Across Graduation Stage - NBC4 Washington

Posted: 13 Jun 2019 03:19 PM PDT

Graduation is a time for students to celebrate their achievements and walk across the stage. But for one student at George Mason Elementary in Richmond, Virginia, that opportunity might have been missed on Wednesday, had it not been for one teacher's act of kindness.

Vohn Lewis, a substitute teacher known as 'Mr. Lewis' at the school, noticed a 5th grader's parent and guidance counselor searching in vain for supplies to fix one student's broken shoe so he could proceed to graduation.

That's when he acted.

"I wasn't thinking. I just moved with my heart," Lewis said. The teacher told the 5th grader they wear the same shoe size and took off his shoes.

"You don't have to do all that," Lewis told the adults, "I wear a size 10 and he can wear my shoes."

Lewis was working in a 4th grade class the day of the ceremony. Temporarily without footwear, Lewis said he sat down until the graduation and recession was over.

"I was patient because I went through graduation and I understand the importance of being involved," Lewis said.

The school took notice of his act of kindness, saying Lewis is often observed encouraging students from all grade levels.

"He demonstrates my mantra "Children First!"," Principal Rose Ferguson said in a statement, "He serves with a true heart of passion! We're not surprised at his actions on yesterday and we're proud to have him as part of the Mason Family!!"

Lewis' act of kindness went viral on Facebook.

A post by Bradley Cook Kopelove had over 80 shares on Thursday. The post thanked the teacher for looking out for the boys.

Lewis said he didn't know he'd get recognition, especially from Superintendent Jason Kamras.

"At first, it was kind of shocking cause I do this stuff all the time so when I get recognition, I'm not used to it. I'm still shocked at it all," Lewis said.

The teacher said he was only thinking about the student at the time.

"People will never forget how you make them feel," Lewis said, "Character is so important in life, you should always be willing to give and always willing to be a blessing to someone else."

Steph Curry's Orange Shoes at NBA Finals Are Under Armour Curry 6's - Heavy.com

Posted: 13 Jun 2019 07:05 PM PDT

getty A look at the Steph Curry 6's the Warriors All-Star is wearing in NBA Finals Game 6.

Steph Curry debuted a new orange colorway for his signature Under Arumor Curry 6's at the NBA finals. Curry was seen wearing the orange shoes during Game 6 in the final game at Oracle Arena.

"Stephen Curry's red and neon #NBAfinals shoes are inspired by "Roaracle" and the Oakland fans' record levels on a decibel scale," ESPN's Nick DePaula tweeted.

Several of Curry's latest shoes have paid homage to Oakland during the Warriors last few games before moving to San Francisco next season. Curry spoke to The Undefeated about his love for the city and how he has incorporated this passion into his latest series of shoes.

"It seems like everything we've put out this year, like 'The Town' colorways, has been a part of my story or something about Oakland," Curry told The Undefeated. "It has the city of Oakland's name across it. I was hoping for something iconic that could capture a moment as we wind down our last days at Oracle."

For Game 3, Curry wore a black and gold colorway with the word Oakland written on the side of the shoe.

Nike Lost Steph Curry After a Terrible Pitch Meeting in 2013

Curry originally was with Nike when he began his career, but a terrible pitch meeting sealed the deal for Curry's exit. Curry's father, Dell Curry, told ABC News that Nike considered his son a "second tier" NBA player from a marketing perspective. ABC News detailed the worst parts of the 2013 meeting.

It got worse from there. A PowerPoint slide featured Kevin Durant's name, presumably left on by accident, presumably residue from repurposed materials. "I stopped paying attention after that," Dell says. Though Dell resolved to "keep a poker face," throughout the entirety of the pitch, the decision to leave Nike was in the works.

In the meeting, according to Dell, there was never a strong indication that Steph would become a signature athlete with Nike. "They have certain tiers of athletes," Dell says. "They have Kobe, LeBron and Durant, who were their three main guys. If he signed back with them, we're on that second tier."

Curry ended up signing with Under Armour where he would become the face of the brand. According to Sports Illustrated, Nike offered Curry a deal worth $2.5 million per year, while Under Armour's offer was close to $4 million each year. Curry signed a new contract with Under Armour in 2015 that runs through 2024 and the deal includes an equity stake in the company.

Hawks swingman Kent Bazemore played a big role in recruiting Curry to Under Armour. Bazemore was playing for the Warriors at the time and formed a friendship with the All-Star.

"I'll shout anything out," Bazemore noted to ABC News. "Yeah, I have no shame when it comes to branding. I'll throw Under Armour's name, anything I'm a part of. I'll speak so highly of it. And Steph's like, 'My deal is up.' I'm like, 'Man, come over here, get your own shoe.' I hadn't talked to anybody at Under Armour about this. I was making all these promises, like 'Get your own shoe, you're the face of the game,' sending out all these hypotheticals. I haven't talked to anyone over there."

Teacher gives student shoes off feet to walk at graduation - Today Show

Posted: 14 Jun 2019 05:36 AM PDT

An elementary school teacher was going to make sure a fifth-grader got to walk across the stage at graduation, even if it meant giving him the shoes off his feet.

Vohn Lewis, a substitute teacher at George Mason Elementary School in Richmond, Virginia, came to the rescue on Wednesday when a student's shoe broke shortly before the graduation ceremony.

The school's guidance counselor, Natalie Battle, brought the distraught student to art teacher Bradley Kopelove to see if there were any supplies to fix the shoe. That's when Lewis stepped in.

He said that he and the boy both wear a size 10, so he took his shoes off and made sure the student got to walk across the stage to get his diploma.

"I wasn't thinking. I just moved with my heart," Lewis told NBC Washington.

"People will never forget how you make them feel. Character is so important in life, you should always be willing to give and always willing to be a blessing to someone else."

Kopelove captured the moment in a series of photos that she posted on Facebook.

June 12, 201900:54

"Mr. Lewis gave the shoes off his feet to help a student who's (sic) shoe broke right before 5th grade graduation!" she wrote. "#thisiswhatarealmanlookslike #integrity#rolemodel made my day! Thank you for looking out for our boys and creating a positive moment during a potentially terrible one for our student."

Lewis has only been working at George Mason Elementary since earlier this year but has already made an impact, the school said.

"He demonstrates my mantra 'Children First!'" principal Rose Ferguson told TODAY in a statement. "He's often observed encouraging students from all grade levels, not just from his assigned class. He serves with a true heart of passion! We're not surprised at his actions on yesterday and we're proud to have him as a part of the Mason Family!"

Kate Middleton Gives Princess Shoes a Glittering New Meaning - Vogue

Posted: 13 Jun 2019 08:39 AM PDT

Yesterday evening, Kate Middleton attended a gala dinner in honor of Addiction Awareness Week in London, England. For the occasion, she wore an off-the-shoulder dress by Barbara Casasola. The white, long-sleeved frock by the London-based label is one she's worn once before, back in 2016, when she presented Art Fund's Museum of the Year prize.

For its reincarnation this week, she switched things up with a surprising shoe choice: sparkly pumps by Jimmy Choo, one of her favorite shoe brands. Middleton typically favors a discreet nude pump, so the glitzier finish marks a shift in her personal style, while giving a whole new meaning to the idea of a princess shoe. Her latest look also aligns with a more relaxed royal dress code that's been coming through across the board. The duchess loves a yummy-mummy boot, for instance, while fellow royal Queen Letizia of Spain has even been known to rock a plastic shoe.

So, what's next? Will the Duchess be slipping into controversial flip-flop heels à la Kim Kardashian West? Highly doubtful—but her Cinderella-style heels are certainly a bold move in the statement shoe department.
