7 things you didn’t read yesterday (but should have)

1. President Goodluck Jonathan, in his
acceptance speech at the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) National Convention at the Eagle
Square, once again said that nobody’s political
ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian . The
last time Jonathan said this, the Chibok girls had
not been kidnapped .

2. The overt dollarization (A new term for excess
sharing of dollars) at the APC presidential
primaries was, apparently, a cause of concern
for Bola Ilori, a special adviser to Osun state
Governor.

3. Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar can’t be too
pleased with some cash-loaded south-east
governors who flew in dollars to show the APC
delegates that dollar pass dollar . And here we
were thinking that the former VP is the most
dollar-loaded Nigerian.

4. While the APC and PDP were holding their
dollar-infested primaries, the Nigerian troops
were ‘flushing’ out the Boko Haram insurgents
from their hiding places in Michika, Borno.

5. Ever heard of Sogidi Lake? Its supposedly a
mystery lake in Awe, a town in Afijio LGA of Oyo
State. It is reported to have healing and
protection powers. More absurdly, the water in
the lake looks brown from afar, but when the
water is collected into a bowl, it is said to be as
clean as table water. In the water are fishes of
different sizes. But it is taboo for anybody to kill
them.

6. In the era of unprecedented impunity in
Nigeria, a power-drunk man in black deemed it
fit to torture and assault a couple for talking
back at him. While the police says investigations
have commenced into the matter, Lawyer, Femi
Falana has no chill whatsoever. He has offered
to take up the case on behalf of Ejeh and Grace
Smith.

7. The poverty level in the country is at an
alarming rate, and a perfect example is ‘when a
woman who recently gave birth to triplets, takes
her baby to the market square to beg for alms,
money, food etc. While dollars were being
shared at the APC primaries, some people could
barely afford a meal.
