It has been snowing all around us. Even my daughter in Virginia has gotten snow, we have only gotten a "dusting". Today is another gloomy day but this day has a forecast of a "big snow" do that makes the day not so gloomy. I always bake on snowy days and although it isn't going to start snowing until this evening I decided to make some scones. I haven't made them in a very long time and they are one of my husband's favorites.I used a recipe from this book...
I purchased it at a thrift store and it is in pretty rough shape. The pages are all falling out...
... but on those pages are some pretty amazing scones recipes. Like this one...
Have I ever mentioned that I'm a messy cook?
...really messy.
But I do clean up my mess...
This scone dough is really thick and sticky...
But it is pretty easy to work with...
These smelled sooooo good while they were baking... perfect snow day baking project!
I didn't really capture the chunks of apples, raisins and walnuts... but, trust me, it wasn't for lack of photographs! It was like trying to get a group shot of all my grands looking at camera and smiling at the same time... twenty seven.photos and there's always somebody not looking! Oh and have I ever mentioned that I can never follow a recipe exactly? I substituted raisins for the dates and I added walnuts because to me the scones seemed to need them.
So, do your bake when there's a big storm coming? What do you bake?
Thanks for dropping by....
